Andean Condors

10:29 PM

One of our most exciting experiences in the Colca Canyon was watching Andean Condors.  This is a must do for any birders visiting Peru.  Andean Condors are a type of new world vulture.  They are incredible impressive birds with a wingspan of up to 3.2 m/10.5 ft.  Andean Condors are soarers rather than fliers and look stunning when in the air. They are considered a symbol of power and health by Andean cultures.

The Colca Canyon is one of the most reliable places to see these impressive birds as well as a variety of other species.  Below are some photos of a day spent among the beautiful Andean Condor.  You will notice there are both adults and juveniles in the photos.  During our observations the adults routinely pushed the young birds off their perch forcing them to soar.
