Owls of South Florida: Video

11:23 AM

We have been on a role with video's lately! Our most recent video posted on the Natura Tours YouTube Channel is about the "Owls of South Florida". As we mentioned in our recent South Florida: Reptiles and Amphibians blog entry we found many exciting creatures during a recent private chartered tour to Florida, including two species of owls.

While there are more than two species of owls in South Florida, I captured on film during our latest trip two of my personal favorites. An eerie sounding predator of the night, the Barn Owl and the cute Burrowing Owl. Burrowing Owls are a species of special concern in Florida. The biggest threat to these pint size owls is loss of habitat. It is common to see the burrows of these animals in neighbourhoods in certain areas of South Florida. The residents of these neighbourhoods treasure their avian neighbours and fight to protect their homes and keep curious visitors at a distance. Its an interesting relationship and will hopefully help protect these animals in Florida. To listen to the call of a Barn Owl click here and scroll down to where it says "typical voice". Pretty eerie!!!

Our "Owls of South Florida" video can be seen at the bottom of this post or on the Natura Tours YouTube Channel. All of our other videos can also be seen via our YouTube Channel.

Happy Birding!
